How to: naturally fill lines, wrinkles and sagging skin

The treatment for lines, wrinkles and sagging skin has become more natural in terms of the result and also the products used. Dermal fillers are the treatment of choice. The best ones are made of a naturally occurring complex sugar found normally in the skin. In addition newer fillers are longer lasting (around 18 months), more natural feeling and give a fantastic result. An example of one of these ‘sugar’ fillers is Juvederm as seen in ‘Hello’ magazine a while ago.

What do fillers do?

Fillers do as their name suggests. They fill in lines, wrinkles and any other volume loss, for example, due to acne scarring or sagging skin such as ‘jowls’. I have treated clients, considering face-lift surgery, who didn’t feel the need for surgery after having fillers. You can see the benefits of fillers in the before and after photos below. Additionally fillers can lift sagging eyebrows and subtly and naturally enhance lips as little or as much as desired.

What are fillers made of?

The best and most common type of fillers are made of complex sugars found naturally in skin. As well as improving the appearance of lines, fillers also hydrate skin by attracting water. Additionally and best of all, the latest research shows that fillers stimulate collagen, thus repairing skin and providing the best anti-ageing treatment possible.

How are fillers placed?

After numbing the area with a numbing cream, the filler is very quickly and easily placed in the skin. The result is immediate and clients can go back to their normal activities straight away.

What are the risks?

Because fillers are made of complex sugars found naturally in skin, reactions are rare. Newer fillers, such as Juvederm are less likely to cause swelling. Post-treatment effects such as slight swelling and pinkness are uncommon and minor. Occasionally a small bruise is possible. All of these are easily covered with makeup which can be applied immediately after treatment.

How long do fillers last?

Modern fillers last 12-18 months, depending on exactly which type of filler is used. Most people will find the results will last a little longer each time the treatment is performed. Juvederm seems to last longer than other fillers, even up to 2 years.

How much do fillers cost?

Fillers come in vials. Each vial is around $710. One vial can treat an extensive area, for example most if not all fine lines around the eyes can be treated with half a vial. With the filler lasting around 12 months, this makes them cost less than a cup of café coffee a day!
